Gooden signing for a good cause

He helped close Shea Stadium last fall. This Monday, he'll be on hand for part of Dutchess Stadium's 2009 opening week.
A former star with the Mets and Yankees, Dwight Gooden will sign autographs prior to Monday's game between the Hudson Valley Renegades and the Brooklyn Cyclones.

Having compiled a 191-112 record over 16 big-league seasons, including 1996 no-hitter with the Yanks, Gooden will be signing as a fund-raiser for City of Poughkeepsie Professional Firefighters, who have coordinated his appearance, which begins at 5 p.m., when the stadium's gates open.

Autographs will cost $15 apiece; 8x10 photographs will be available for $5 each. The proceeds of the event will benefit the firefighters organization's baseball academy and youth baseball programs.
