FISHKILL — Turns out,
Burt Reynolds isn't the only Rays prospect on the move...

Just minutes after tonight's 8-2 win over the Brooklyn Cyclones, I just got word that right-handed pitcher Jake Thompson has been promoted. He'll leave the Renegades tomorrow morning and head to the Port Charlotte Stone Crabs, the Tampa Bay Rays' advanced full-season, Class A team in the Florida State League. There, he'll join such former Hudson Valley hurlers as Nick Barnese, Matt Moore, Neil Schenk and Zach Quate.
The first of two second-round selections the Rays made this season, Thompson made three bullpen appearances before seven starts. In his 10 outings with the Renegades, the rookie was 2-1 with a 1.35 ERA. He pitched 40 innings for Hudson Valley, striking out 33 batters and walking six.
Last Tuesday, Thompson was one of five Renegades who played in the sixth annual New York-Penn League All-Star Game.
